The Dangers of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate (SLS/SLES) is a foaming agent found in many household products including laundry detergents, body washes, soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, hair color and bleaching agents and cleansers. It is also found as an active ingredient in very hazardous products such as drain cleaners, engine degreasers, and car wash soaps.  You may discover that SLS is a derivative of coconut, but this doesn’t make it natural, it is well contaminated with different carcinogenic by-products.

Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate is an irritant and an aggressive degreaser, which is bad for your skin because it removes moisture and certain protective oils that are necessary to maintain the health of the skin. But the more severe damages come from its absorption through your skin; which is stored in the tissues and vital organs throughout your body. The use of any product containing this ingredient may lead to blindness, cataracts, cancer, and damages to the brain, heart, kidney, liver and central nervous system. SLS/SLES is so bad that it is also commonly used as a pesticide to kill plants and insects.
